Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition Launches in India with Limited 1,000-Unit Drop

The Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition has officially been launched in India as a unique, limited-run smartphone created in collaboration with the brand’s global community. Nothing’s Community Edition Project continues to move beyond traditional feedback models, allowing creators to directly contribute to the development of hardware, software, accessories, and marketing elements. This year, the programme received over 700 submissions, reflecting the growing desire among independent designers to work closely with technology brands.\

Only four contributors were ultimately selected to shape the final product. The hardware and packaging were designed by Emre Kayganacl, whose concept draws from late 1990s and early 2000s tech aesthetics. For the first time, the Community Edition also features a custom accessory, the Dice, created by Ambrogio Tacconi and Louis Aymonod. The accessory incorporates the brand’s Ndot 55 font and global play-inspired symbols that align with Nothing’s minimalist design identity.

On the software front, designer Jad Zock introduced a redesigned lock screen clock featuring variable font weights for better readability and a cleaner interface. The phone also includes four matching wallpapers created to integrate seamlessly with the device’s visual style. The marketing campaign, titled Made Together and led by Sushruta Sarkar, highlights the collaborative nature of the entire project.

Nothing further stated that this co-creation model extends into its organisational framework. With initiatives like an elected Community Board Observer and a $5 million community investment fund under its Series C valuation, the company aims to strengthen long-term creator involvement.

The Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition is priced at Rs. 28,999 and will be available exclusively in a single 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. Only 1,000 units will be produced globally. In India, the device can be purchased during a limited drop event on December 13, 2025, at 33&Brew, Prestige Technostar, Bengaluru, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. IST.

Nothing OS 4.0 Update Paused as Company Works on Urgent Fix

Nothing OS 4.0 Update has reportedly been paused after the company discovered issues requiring an immediate fix. The Android 16-based firmware, which began rolling out in November, had started reaching select Nothing Phone models before the rollout was suddenly halted. According to user reports, Nothing Support confirmed that the update has been pulled temporarily while an urgent patch is being prepared.

Rollout Temporarily Suspended

A Reddit user revealed that despite the official rollout announcement, their Nothing Phone 3 had not yet received the update. Upon contacting customer support, they were informed that the update distribution had been “temporarily halted”. A screenshot shared on the NothingTech subreddit shows that the company removed the Nothing OS 4.0 package to implement a necessary fix before resuming the stable rollout.

Users who have already installed the initial version will reportedly receive a patched update once testing is completed. Meanwhile, devices running older versions of Nothing OS will receive the corrected update when the rollout restarts.

Reports of Bugs and Confusion

Multiple early users have reported unexpected issues after installing Nothing OS 4.0. Some devices displayed a message stating they were “enrolled in the Android Beta Program”, despite downloading the stable version. Others noted UI glitches on models such as the Nothing Phone 2, including the status bar reset issue, missing navigation bar animations, and inconsistent visual responses within the Settings app.

These user-reported bugs are believed to be key reasons behind the halted rollout. Nothing is expected to resume distribution once the updated build completes urgent internal testing, ensuring a stable experience for all supported devices.
