Samsung unveils the Exynos 2100 to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888.

Yesterday, Samsung unveiled its Exynos 2100 chipset for international variant before the launch of Galaxy S21 series. Samsung announced the Exynos 2100, in a bid to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888.

During the Exynos 2100 event, the President and GM of the System LSI Business at Samsung, Dr. Inyup Kang, revealed that their next flagship Exynos processor will have a GPU co-developed with AMD.

The Exynos 2100 features ARM’s Cortex-X1 and Cortex-A78 performance CPUs like the Snapdragon 888. In comparison with the Exynos 990, Exynos 2100 will deliver 30% total better CPU performance.

In terms of graphics, the Exynos 2100 offers over 40% better performance compared to the Exynos 990 with its ARM Mali-G78MP14. Samsung also talked about improvements to sustained GPU performance with the introduction of AMIGO, which stands for Advanced Multi-IP Governor.

With a 3 core NPU, the Exynos 2100 achieves 26 TOPS performance which is equivalent to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888. According to Samsung, Exynos 2100 can handle 4 simultaneous streams, 6 image sensors can be connected and  ISP can handle 200MP image sensors.

The Exynos 2100 also supports AV1 decoding and comes with 5nm processor for faster and more enhanced performance.  With the Galaxy S21 launch, we’ll soon have our chance to benchmark Samsung’s new Exynos 2100 chipset.
