Amazon Prime Video has Launched Movie Rental Service in India
Amazon Prime Video has launched a new Amazon Prime Store in India allowing both subscribers and non-subscribers to rent out new regional and worldwide movies on the platform, citing the popularity of OTT services and the growing number of subscribers in the country. Amazon’s transaction-video-on-demand (TVoD) service, similar to Google’s YouTube rental offering, allows Indian OTT customers to rent new movies for a limited time, ranging from international releases to regional releases in Tamil and Telegu.
Amazon Prime Video Launches Movie Rental Service in India
Amazon Prime Video had a press conference in Mumbai recently to promote its new TVoD offering via the new Prime Video Store, as well as its plans to release 40 new titles in India over the next two years.
The new Prime Video TVoD service is based on the platform’s new Prime Video Store. It is available on the official website for both Prime Video subscribers and non-subscribers. Users can rent new movies for a limited time from this library, including the Robert Pattinson-starrer The Batman, the newest title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Spiderman: No Way Home, and more.
Depending on the movies, the price ranges from Rs 69 to Rs 499. After a user leases a title, it will be available for 30 days on Amazon Prime Video. Viewers will have 48 hours to finish a rented movie if they begin it on the app.
Amazon Prime Video: How to Rent Movies

- Using a browser on your laptop or desktop, go to the official Prime Video website.
- From the navigation bar above, select the new “Store” tab.
- Choose a movie to rent from the several categories available in the Store.
- On the movie detail page, click the new “Rent” button after selecting the movie.
- Select a payment option for the rent, and there you have it! You’ve got a new movie to watch now. At the present, the streaming site only accepts credit and debit card payments. There are no digital payment options such as Amazon Pay, UPI, or others.
This way, you can rent many movies at once and retain them for up to 30 days if you don’t view them right away. Furthermore, Amazon has divided the rent-eligible movies in its Store into categories to make it easier for people to select what they want to watch.
“In tune with our vision to become an entertainment hub, we have innovated in the way we offer movies, from films in a post-theatrical early-window to direct-to-service premieres bringing movies to consumers’ living rooms and preferred devices. The launch of the TVoD movie rental service will not just give expanded reach to these films but also give customers more choice in how they want to access and watch content,” said Gaurav Gandhi, Country Head of Amazon Prime Video India, in a statement.
Aside from the TVoD service, Amazon India said that it will double its investment in India in order to introduce new titles to the market. True-crime and investigative docudramas will be among them, as will entertaining and spicy Bollywood programming.
