Even though Apple’s WWDC 2022 developer conference is only a few hours away, last-minute rumours haven’t stopped coming in. Despite the fact that WWDC is primarily a software event, Apple is likely to unveil an updated MacBook Air. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has some bad news for those wanting to get their hands on a new 2022 MacBook Air in the coming months.

Shipments of the MacBook Air may be delayed

Apple may suffer supply problems with the new MacBook Air, according to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter. Because of COVID-19-related lockdowns, Apple’s vendors that manufacture MacBook Air, such as Pegatron and Quanta, have ceased manufacturing in China. As a result, the rumour says that if Apple unveils the MacBook Air at the event, we may not get an instant shipment date.

In terms of the new MacBook Air, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that Apple would ship almost six to seven million units in the second half of the year, assuming Quanta’s Shanghai production plant reaches pre-lockdown levels before the third quarter. While Quanta will be the only manufacturer of the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros, Foxconn will work alongside Quanta to produce the MacBook Air.

Kuo believes that, contrary to earlier MacBook Air design reports, the new MacBook Air will come in three regular colour options: Gray, Silver, and Gold, as well as a dark blue variation. While there have been reports that the Air will come with an M2 chip with an eight-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, Kuo believes that the M1 technology will be used in the 2022 MacBook Air.

A 13-inch MacBook Pro is also in development, with an announcement likely at today’s WWDC 2022 event. However, according to Gurman, this is unlikely to happen. The MacBook Pro 2022 is expected to have the same design as the current model, with an M2 or M1 processor. It’s also possible that the touch bar will be excluded. We’ll have to wait and see what Apple has planned for the Mac this year.

WWDC 2022, according to Gurman, will also focus on AR/VR while releasing the essential software improvements.
