A GPU security flaw, named LeftoverLocals has been recently reported by Trails of Bits. This security flaw has appeared online. Suppose we talk about the effect of this GPU security flaw. So, this GPU security flaw is affecting millions of Apple MacBooks and iPhones along with devices having AMD and Qualcomm chips.

This issue (LeftoverLocals) is present in the GPU memory that stores AI data, which allows attackers to extract the personal information of iPhones, MacBooks, and other users who have devices with AMD and Qualcomm chipsets. Apple is already aware of this security flaw and has already patched some Apple devices with A17 Bionic and M3.

But till now, old iPhones such as M2 MacBooks Air devices, iPads, and the iPhone 12 series are still not patched, and they are at risk of being exposed. Attackers attack the devices just by typing under 10 lines of code to access uninitialized local memory, which is between 5 and 180 MB (memory that is not initialized). Along with code, attackers are also using generative AI like ChatGPT. The companies are committed to rolling out updates to fix the security flaw as soon as possible.

If you see an update on your device, then make sure to do that update to protect your device from this GPU security flaw. Also, do let us know whether you like this post or not in the comment box.
