Mastodon is frequently mentioned while discussing Twitter-like social media apps on the market. In recent years, it has arguably been one of the greatest alternatives to corporate social networks. Following the launching of its own iOS app last year, the company has now launched an official Android app on Google Play. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Android App for Mastodon is now available

Mastodon’s iOS app has a Twitter-like user interface. On your Android device, you may log into any community, search for posts, receive notifications for new posts, send them to other community members, and enjoy the decentralized social platform.

Mastodon, for those unfamiliar, is an open-source social platform that provides a decentralized Twitter-like experience. The website, which has a user base of 4.4 million, allows users to join communities in which they may share their thoughts and opinions and connect with people from other groups.

The platform is based on the open-source ActivityPub platform, which is also used by other social media networks as Instagram alternative PixelFed. It also includes anti-abuse mechanisms and a character restriction of 500 characters, which is higher than Twitter’s limit.

Returning to Mastodon’s Android app, it offers a number of capabilities, including the ability to sync with the system’s dark mode to transition to its theme automatically. There are, however, some limitations. To begin with, the app is unable to display local or federated timelines, which are collections of content from current and other known communities on the site. Users will have to rely on third-party apps like Tusky for Android and Toot! for iOS to get these functionalities.

If you’re a Mastodon user looking for an Android app, you can now get it via the Google Play Store.
