OnePlus has just rolled out the first Alpha build of OxygenOS 14 for its OnePlus 11 device, and the tech community is buzzing with excitement. Though this initial release doesn’t bring substantial changes, it serves as a promising preview of what’s to come.

This Alpha build OTA update is only being released for 500 users, which is basically OxygenOS 14 Closed Beta Program.

Based on Android 14, the Alpha build’s OxygenOS version is 13.1 and comes with the 5th August 2023 security patch. There’s also an Android 14 Easter egg for enthusiasts to discover. The software version for this build is CPH2447_14.0.0.34(EX01) and the update size was around 5 GB.

The Alpha build appears to be quite stable with minimal bugs, making it suitable for daily use. An in-depth review is expected soon, but let’s dive into what we know so far:

Visual Changes

  1. Lock Screen: The lock screen’s dial pad now has circular pins, and the text has been moved to the bottom side.
  2. Charging Display: Smart rapid charging now displays text, and the charging animation has been altered to highlight only the charging and fingerprint icons.
  3. Alert Slider: Icon and text colors are now the same, and the alert slider pill has been resized and repositioned. This hints at future material design changes.
  4. Camera UI: There are now four zoom options (ultrawide, 1X, 2X, 5X), with a complete overhaul of icons, filters, retouch options, and settings display.
  5. App Drawer and Launcher: Minor changes like decreased icon size, different color adaptations, and thickness adjustments in the sidebar.
  6. Settings: From additional descriptions for fonts to preview changes in screen resolution, haptics, battery health, and more, there are noticeable updates to explore.

New Features and Options

  1. Smart Suggestions: Real-time updates about ride-hailing, food deliveries, and other information will be provided, with supported applications like Grab, Zomato, and more.
  2. Battery Options: The addition of battery boosters preview and an option to stop charging at 80% are welcome enhancements for battery management.

Minor Bugs

  1. Layer Two UI Bug: A white animation issue when swiping left to right on the hide application popup.
  2. Chinese Text on Always-On Display: This anomaly appears under the option for contextual info.

OnePlus’s first Alpha build of OxygenOS 14 promises a sleeker and more optimized user experience. Though changes are minimal at this stage, they indicate the direction OnePlus is taking with its UI and functionality.

Users interested in an early look at OxygenOS 14 can experiment with this Alpha build on their OnePlus 11, though they should be mindful of the minor issues discovered.
