OxygenOS 12 Open Beta 1 For Oneplus 9 & 9 Pro

Google just announced Android 12, and we’re thrilled to say that OnePlus is one of the first smartphone manufacturers to officially distribute Android 12. Today, we’re releasing the OxygenOS 12 Open Beta for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, which is based on Android 12. Check out the new OxygenOS 12 and see for yourself if you want to completely get what it’s all about.

Key updates

  • System
    • Optimized desktop icons with improved textures, by using a design inspired by brand-new materials and uniting lights and layers
  • Dark mode
    • Dark mode now supports three adjustable levels, bringing a more personalized and comfortable user experience
  • Shelf
    • New additional style options for Cards, making data contents more visual and easier to read
    • Newly added Earphone Control Card with Bluetooth earphone one-click adjustment
    • Newly added access to OnePlus Scout in Shelf, allowing you to search multiple contents on your phone, including Apps, Settings, Media Data, etc
    • Newly added OnePlus Watch Card in Shelf, to easily glance at your health stats
  • Work Life Balance
    • Work Life Balance feature is now available to all users, allowing you to effortlessly switch between Work and Life mode via quick settings
    • WLB 2.0 now supports automatic Work/Life mode switching, based on specific locations, Wi-Fi network, and time, also bringing customized App notification profiles according to the personalization
  • Gallery
    • Gallery now allows you to switch between different layouts with a two-finger pinch gesture, intelligently recognizing the best-quality pictures, and cropping the thumbnail based on the content, making the gallery layout more pleasing
  • Canvas AOD
    • Canvas AOD brings you new diverse styles of lines and colors, for a more personalized lock screen experience with inspiring visuals
    • Newly added multiple brushes and strokes and support for color adjustment
    • Optimized software algorithm and improved face recognition to better identify the features and skin color of different figures

Know issues

  1. Some third-party apps haven’t been adapted to the latest Android version and may not function properly
  2. Camera might be stuck and unstable sometimes
  3. Texts and calls might not be able to be received
  4. Bluetooth earphones may fail to connect and play music
  5. Information about the CPU is incorrectly displayed
  6. Buttons in Gallery might not function properly
  7. Screen recordings may not be saved in some instances


Please note: 
These instructions are only for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. Please make sure the battery level is above 30% and a minimum of 3GB storage space is available.

MP version = Stable official version
OBT version = Open Beta Version

MP to OBT upgrade guide—via Local OTA Update
Note: This upgrade method will not erase data but please be sure to backup first.

  1. Download the latest ROM upgrade zip package from the specified server.
  2. Copy the ROM upgrade package to the phone storage.
  3. Go to Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Click top right icon -> Local upgrade -> Click on the corresponding installation package -> upgrade -> System upgrade completed to 100%.
  4. After the upgrade is complete, click Restart.
  5. Update successful.

NOTE: For those users who are on the Developer Preview 2 or Closed Beta version of OxygenOS 12, please download and apply this apk before you download Open Beta 1. With it, you can choose to upgrade or rollback. It will open automatically after being installed, then you just need to click the button on the top right corner, to select the upgrade file as mentioned in step 3 of the instructions above.

OBT to MP rollback guide—via Local OTA update
Note: This upgrade method will erase all the contents of the phone, please be sure to backup first.

  1. Download the latest ROM upgrade zip package from the specified server.
  2. Copy the Rollback package to the phone storage.
  3. Install this apk. You’ll need it to rollback. Then, open the app -> tap the top right gear icon -> find the downgrade package and tap it -> wait to finish the installation -> tap reboot
  4. After the upgrade is complete, click Restart.
  5. Update successful.
