Samsung India has announced competition for young people to tackle real-world problems

Samsung Electronics has announced the first edition of Solve for Tomorrow, a new national education and innovation competition aimed at young people. The brand is challenging India’s brightest young minds to come up with innovative ideas that can change people’s lives and communities.

Samsung India Competition Solve for Tomorrow

Samsung wants to help Indian youth aged 16 to 22 years old from all cities, towns, and villages put their ideas for solving real-world problems into action. In its first year, Solve for Tomorrow is looking for ideas in the categories of Education, Environment, Healthcare, and Agriculture, which are among the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals that are most important to India.

Mentoring by industry experts and the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi) will be provided to the top 50 teams (individuals or teams of up to three members) to help them improve their ideas, as well as a bootcamp at IIT Delhi, a certificate of participation, and vouchers worth INR 100,000 for online courses in design thinking, STEM, innovation, and leadership, among other things. The top ten teams will be invited to visit Samsung India offices, R&D centres, and the Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru, where they will meet young Samsung employees and researchers.

The annual program will culminate with the announcement of three national winners, who will be given up to INR 1 crore in funding and six months of mentoring to help them take their ideas to the next level under the experienced direction of IIT Delhi.

Round One of the Application Window

Individuals or groups of up to three people can apply at www.samsung.com/in/solvefortomorrow, detailing the problem they’re solving, the suggested solution, and its societal impact.

A jury of subject matter experts from FITT, IIT Delhi, will shortlist the top 50 teams from all of the applications received based on a selection criteria that includes the best use of technology (app, product, or service), creativity, originality of the idea, the feasibility of the solution with current technology, the potential to positively impact society or the environment, and the ability to reach the intended target audience.

Round Two of Idea Development

The top 50 teams will receive online design thinking training and will attend a boot camp on producing a proof of concept at IIT Delhi in this round. Professors and mentors from IIT Delhi will also assist the teams in fleshing out their concepts and developing early prototypes.

Each of the 50 teams will receive a certificate of participation as well as course vouchers worth up to INR 100,000, which can be used to enroll in any online course related to design thinking, STEM, innovation, entrepreneurship, business skills, management, and leadership.

After teams submit videos of their ideas and prototypes, a Samsung jury panel of experts will choose ten teams to go to Round Three. The progress of the idea since the original submission, demonstrable use of research and/or testing to understand the needs of the target audience, display of design thinking, and quality of presentation will all be considered in this round.

Building the Final Prototype — Round Three

The top 10 teams will receive advanced online training in areas such as prototyping and designing for manufacturing, business communication, funding prospects, and certifications, as well as mentoring from Samsung and IIT Delhi experts to help them prepare their concepts for the finals.

Teams will also visit Samsung facilities in Gurugram, Noida, and Bengaluru, as well as the world’s largest mobile experience hub at the historic Opera House in Bengaluru, where they will meet and interact with young Samsung employees and researchers.

At the conclusion of this round, the teams will submit their final prototypes and prepare for a live presentation in front of an illustrious jury at the Finale Event.

Samsung gifts worth INR 100,000 will be handed to the top ten teams, which will comprise interesting Samsung products.

Samsung will award three winning teams a total of INR 1 crore in funding, putting them one step closer to turning their ideas into dream enterprises that may address India’s main challenges in agriculture, education, the environment, and healthcare.

Additionally, the winner teams will receive an 85-inch Samsung Flip interactive digital board for their schools or colleges.

Winners of the scholarship will get the opportunity to work with IIT Delhi mentors for six months and will have access to an incubation centre on the IIT Delhi campus. They will work on their ideas for the next six months, getting them to the point where they may seek consumer validation for their prototypes.
