WhatsApp is working on Preview of Links Shared as Text Status

After the rumoured ability to react to Status with emoji reactions and Status updates in the chat list, WhatsApp is preparing a new upgrade to its Status feature. The alleged new feature would provide rich previews of links shared as text status updates. Here’s an example of how this will look.

Changes to WhatsApp Status are on the way

According to a recent claim by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on Rich Link Preview for text Statuses. This effectively implies that when users share a link as a WhatsApp Status, they will be able to get a preview of the link with more data, similar to how they can examine a link shared in chats.

Any link posted as a Status will currently appear as a link, with a preview appearing only when the link is pressed. Here’s a comparison of what you’re seeing now and what you might see in the near future.

The screenshot appears to be of an iOS WhatsApp Status update, but it is likely to be available to Android and desktop users as well. You should be aware, though, that it is still in the works and will ultimately reach WhatsApp beta testers. It is unknown when it will be released to the general public. As previously stated, WhatsApp is anticipated to add the option to respond to a Status update with emojis, similar to how Instagram recently added message reactions. The option to check Status updates in chat lists or when a person is searched is another feature that will be replicated from Instagram. A green ring will appear around a person’s DP to show this. A new Status can now only be viewed from its own area within the app.

Furthermore, the Meta-owned messaging application for Android, iOS, and desktop may soon offer additional search filter options. This functionality is already accessible to Business users, and it will soon be available to other users, allowing them to quickly find unread chats, contacts, non-contacts, and groups. This feature is also in the works, but there’s no news on when it will be available.
