Discord introduces AutoMod, which allows servers to automatically moderate content

Discord has replaced TeamSpeak as the go-to app for most gamers, streamers, and content creators to chat during games and connect with their online networks. As a result, the company is taking considerable steps to improve the user experience, noting the growth of the Discord community. As a result, Discord has released a new AutoMod tool that can recognise and filter certain objectionable words or phrases in a server automatically.

Discord Launches AutoMod new content moderation bot

Discord has announced its newest AutoMod function in an official blog post. On desktops, this feature is found under Content Moderation in the Server Settings menu, and it allows server moderators with “Manage Server” authority to configure the tool to detect and block offensive or abusive words or phrases in their servers.

To get into the details, Discord claims that AutoMod works by analysing a server’s textual chats, whether they’re in a Thread, a #text-channel, or a server’s Text Chat in the Voice channel, for terms or phrases that have been disallowed by a moderator. Server moderators must, however, set up the tool and enter the keywords or phrases they want AutoMod to identify and prohibit in order for it to work.

AutoMod will come with three pre-made lists of terms that moderators can choose from when it first launches. They can also add up to three custom lists of words to be banned from their servers. Furthermore, AutoMod will soon be able to prevent hazardous links and spam messages, according to Discord’s FAQ section.

Moderators can choose one of three reactions for users who use the restricted words after adding the keywords they want to block to their servers. They can currently choose to block the message before it is sent to a chat, send a notice to a specific channel, and impose a timeout to the offending user account.

AutoMod is presently only available on Community servers, which are essentially larger venues similar to public chatrooms. Smaller servers, such as those with a group of friends that use Discord as a communication tool while gaming, are not eligible.
