Google has recently launched the July 2023 Android security update, which is now being rolled out to Google Pixel smartphones and the newly released Pixel Tablet. While this update primarily concentrates on bug fixes and security enhancements, users should not anticipate any major new features until the arrival of Android 14 later this year.

The July Android security update introduces several noteworthy improvements for Google Pixel devices. Specifically for the Pixel Tablet, two fixes have been implemented to address battery and charging performance issues, as well as occasional display problems encountered with lock screen notifications. These enhancements aim to provide users with an improved overall experience while using the Pixel Tablet.

Google has released the Android Security Bulletin for July, which consists of two patch levels: July 1 and July 5, focusing on security measures. The July 1 patches target vulnerabilities found in the Android framework, system, and Wi-Fi, including some classified as critical severity. The July 5 patches consist of vendor-specific fixes and address a total of 20 vulnerabilities, with one critical vulnerability identified as CVE-2023-21629.

The July security patch for Android 13 is currently being rolled out to various Pixel devices, including the Pixel 4a, 4a 5G, 5, 5a, 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, and Tablet. Notably, the update size varies, with the Pixel Tablet receiving a 23.27MB update and the Pixel 7 obtaining a 21.67MB update.

The introduction of this update signifies the initial routine security update for the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet, unveiled during Google I/O in May and commenced shipping in June. Although the update is presently being deployed to Google Pixel devices, certain Samsung handsets have already received it. Users can easily check for the update by navigating to Settings > System > System update on their Pixel devices.

In general, the July Android security update encompasses critical bug fixes, enhanced security measures, and targeted enhancements for the Pixel Tablet.
