A smartphone function known as “always on display” (also spelled “always on display,” “always-on display,” or something similar AOD) allows the phone to continue to display certain information even when it is sleeping. It is commonly accessible on Android phones, and with the iPhone 14 Pro, it is also accessible on Apple iPhones. Depending on how it is used and behaves, the functionality may also be referred to as Ambient Display or Active Display on some[which?] Android devices. It could be a substitute for or an addition to another feature, such as the notification LED, depending on the design of the phone.
