Android TV and Google TV devices can now be controlled with iPhones! That’s right, you read that correctly. For years, Android TV devices could only be controlled with an Android smartphone and a specific app; iPhone users were out of luck. Google has now fixed the problem by releasing a new Google TV app for iOS users. With its upmarket interface layout and greater content aggregation, Google TV could be the future of Android TVs. The software has been available on Android devices for some time and is now available on iOS.

Google TV App for iPhone can be used as a TV Remote

The Google TV app gathers content recommendations from a variety of streaming sources and allows you to make a global watchlist of your favourite episodes and movies. It’s essentially an expansion of the Google TV interface, which is largely seen on Sony Bravia TVs in recent years. The app will replace the Google Play Movies and TV app in the App Store, and users who have that app installed should receive an automatic update.

Aside from remote control functions, the Google TV app also allows you to score previously watched material in order to better future recommendations. Your Google rentals and purchases will also be accessible through the app. All of this may be found under the “your stuff” tab. The “highlights” tab, according to Google, keeps you “up to date with a personalized daily feed of news, reviews, and more about the entertainment you enjoy.”

Initially, the Apple TV app was only available on iPhones and iPads, as well as on Samsung and smart TVs. Apple later increased its reach by adding Android TV to the mix.
