Korean Engineer Made Gravestone for Internet Explorer to Honor the Now-Dead Browser

After confirming last year that it will terminate Internet Explorer, Microsoft finally did it on June 15th of this month. A South Korean software engineer decided to create a gravestone for the Internet Explorer browser, which recently went viral on the internet, to commemorate and celebrate the OG web browser that once ruled the market. Jung Ki-young, a software engineer from South Korea, has a love-hate connection with the browser. As a result of Internet Explorer’s untimely demise, Ki-young spent a month constructing an elegant gravestone for the browser.

The engineer paid 430,000 won (Rs 25,950) to make the stone, which had the original “e” logo and the slogan “He was a good tool to download other browsers.” The tribute was displayed in his brother’s cafe in Gyeongju, South Korea.

The Korean engineer went on to say that making his apps and websites look well on Internet Explorer took a lot more effort. Ki-clients young’s kept requesting him to keep his websites and apps optimized for Explorer because most Korean government institutions and banks still use it for regular internet browsing.

“It was a pain in the ass, but I would call it a love-hate relationship because Explorer itself once dominated an era.” He also claimed that he wanted to make people laugh with the gravestone. However, Jung was taken aback by the amount of attention it received on the internet.

“That’s another reason for me to thank the Explorer, it has now allowed me to make a world-class joke,” Jung said. “I regret that it’s gone, but I won’t miss it. So its retirement, to me, is a good death,” he further added.

Well, I don’t know about you, but I’d like to go to the cafe where Internet Explorer’s memorial is located. After all, it was the most widely used web browser of all time, even if most of us simply used it to download Google Chrome or its equivalents, as Jung noted on its gravestone.
