OnePlus Open Campaign Begins with Release of First Look Video

OnePlus is stirring up excitement for its upcoming smartphone release. If we believe the rumors, OnePlus is set to release its first-ever foldable smartphone “OnePlus Open“, later this month. The official campaign to generate buzz around this new device has now begun. This comes after an Indian actress was seen with the Open a few days ago.

A video from Unbox Therapy features OnePlus’s Pete Lau. During the interview, Lau speaks about the device’s hinge design. It’s interesting to note that OnePlus or its parent company Oppo has 35 patents related to this hinge.

The OnePlus Open has a unique feature: it can close with no hinge gap. This was showcased by trapping a sheet of paper inside the phone and then lifting the phone with the sheet. This not only gave viewers a glimpse of the phone’s hardware but also demonstrated its efficiency. There’s a big camera bump on the phone which was mostly hidden under a piece of cardboard in the video.

The Open’s hinge is different from others. It has 31 fewer components than the hinge on the Oppo Find N2. This helps in reducing the size of the phone making it 37% smaller and also lighter. Despite being a new entrant in the foldable phone market, Lau is confident. He believes they are “bringing the best phone to the race”. Users can expect a fast and smooth experience similar to other OnePlus devices. And yes, the phone does come with the alert slider.

The device is a collaboration between the teams at OnePlus and Oppo. Both teams added their unique touch to the phone. Lau hints that there will be different strategies for launching the phone in various markets. This could mean that while it’s called the OnePlus Open in international markets, it might be known as the Oppo Find N3 in China. This aligns with rumors we’ve heard for some time now.

For those hoping for a OnePlus flip phone, there might be some disappointment. Lau believes that flip phones cater to a different audience, not typically the OnePlus buyer. So at least for now, there’s no flip phone in the pipeline for OnePlus.
