WhatsApp, Meta’s popular messaging application, has received a new update that now allows users to create groups with up to 512 members. The current maximum is 256 participants, however, WhatsApp is now tripling the number of members in group chats.
This feature, along with others such as up to 2GB file sharing in group chats, message reactions, and more, was revealed in May. Reactions and 2GB file-sharing was recently made available to all Android, iOS, and desktop users. The rollout of the 512 participants in a group chat has already been confirmed, according to a report from WAbetainfo. Let’s have a look at the specifics.
WhatsApp now supports up to 512 people in Group
WhatsApp beta for Android 188.8.131.52 and newer, as well as WhatsApp beta for iOS 184.108.40.206, has received an update. Starting today, all WhatsApp users (non-beta users) will be able to use this function. As previously stated, WhatsApp’s previous limit was 256 participants, however, it has now been increased to 512 participants. However, this figure is nowhere near Telegram’s 200,000-person group chat cap.
Although the update is now available to the majority of users, some users may have to wait up to 24 hours to receive it. As previously said, this update is now going out to everyone, so keep an eye out for the WhatsApp app update in the Android and iOS app stores. If you want to test out this new functionality, you may do so by starting a new WhatsApp account and seeing how many people you can add.
In a similar vein, WhatsApp is experimenting with additional features such as adding the author’s name to message information, discreetly exiting groups, and a status reply indicator. Recently, the company released a new update that allows up to 32 people to join a call, as well as WhatsApp message reactions for all users.
